Blocking vs linked tasks

Blocking tasks hold an item back from Ready; linked tasks are just references.

A task can be attached to an item in two ways:

  • Blocks readiness of — the item isn't Ready until this task is done or marked won't do. Use it for work that must finish before shipping.
  • Linked items — a reference only. It shows up on the item, but never changes its readiness.
Example: "Write release notes" blocks readiness of release R-004. "Competitor teardown" is linked to the same release for context.

You can move a link between the two from the task's panel. Only features, solutions, releases, quarters and discoveries can be blocked. Tasks suggested by AI reviews are always added as linked, so a suggestion never makes an item look unready.
